Worcester is the 2nd most stressful city to find parking in the UK.
Driving can be stressful, whether you’re stuck in traffic or looking for a parking spot. Admiral Car Insurance analysed more than 157,000 tweets about parking by UK motorists to find out where the most stressful London boroughs are to find a parking spot.
For each tweet, they applied the academic tool called TensiStrength to measure the stress levels and rank each location as having the highest percentage of stressed-out parking-related tweets.
Our study revealed Worcester is the 2nd most stressful city to find parking in the UK.
Plymouth is the most stressful city to find a parking spot in the UK
Worcester is the second most stressful UK city for drivers with 28.5% of tweets about parking in Worcester ranking as 'stressed' by the AI tool.
Worcester ranked higher than more densely populated cities such as London (30th), Bristol (6th), and Birmingham (10th).
Cities in the South West make up 40% of the top 10 list (Plymouth, Gloucester, Bristol, and Exeter), suggesting the South West is the most stressful region to find parking in the UK.
Glasgow is the least stressful city in the UK to find a parking spot
Glasgow is the UK city with the lowest proportion of stressed tweets related to parking (13.9%), making it the least stressful city for drivers to find a parking spot.
40% of the bottom 10 list is made up of North West cities (Carlisle, Salford, Preston, and Blackpool) meaning the North West is the least stressful region to find parking.
Methodology
We analysed 157,868 tweets including words related to parking, such as ‘parking spot', 'car park', or 'parking meter'.
The AI tool TensiStrength was used to estimate the stress levels in tweets, by analysing them on a scale of -1 to -5 (very highly stressed), based on the classification of words related to stress, frustration, anxiety, anger and negativity.
The final rankings are based on the locations with the highest proportion of tweets that are classified as ‘mild stressed’ or higher (-2 to -5 on the TensiStrength scale).
All cities in the UK were included in our analysis, as well as all London boroughs but we have excluded all UK cities and London boroughs with less than 500 tweets.
After excluding cities and London boroughs based on that criteria, there were 51 cities and 24 London boroughs included in our final analysis.
